MEDİNA Mannheim

The owners of the restaurant “Medina Steak House” in Frankfurt requested a Turkish Corner within their new premises in Mannheim. When we began our analysis of the space and its surrounding potential, we didn’t limit our approach to just a Turkish Corner. Considering that it would appeal to both Turkish and foreign customers, we adopted a broader oriental approach, encompassing a wider timeframe and identity.

While the client specifically desired a strong emphasis on the Ottoman influence, Arabesque elements were also incorporated. For instance, the seating groups were entirely designed in the Maghrebi style. The motifs that extend throughout the venue reflect a culture spanning not only the Ottoman Seljuk periods but also reaching back to the Umayyad dynasty. The contrasting use of Eastern colors was intentionally exaggerated in certain areas. A welcoming and warm space was created, where authentic elements were modernized to a certain extent.

In the selection of accessories, paintings, finials, pendants, and fabrics representing the Ottoman era were used. Consequently, a space was created where the East is experienced with a Turkish-Ottoman emphasis. This area, which satisfied the employer, the designer, and the customer base, led to the idea of opening a new restaurant that would also utilize this concept.
