\u00a0\u00a0 In the town of Kehl, nestled right on the border between Germany and France, we have a rather distinctive steakhouse project by the name of KHAN, which rather cleverly blends the enchanting atmosphere of old Turkish caravanserais with a thoroughly modern twist. This project aims to furnish the establishment with both a unique identity within the region and a rather robust corporate image. It also serves to underscore the importance of embarking on the creation of a space with a compelling narrative firmly in mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 Brand Story: Once Upon a Time in Anatolia…<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 The KHAN brand, you see, has its roots deeply embedded in the ancient culture stretching from Central Asia to Anatolia, drawing inspiration from the traditional Turkish caravanserais. For centuries, these caravanserais, where travellers would rest, partake in meals, and where diverse cultures would converge, were not merely lodgings but also the very epicentres of commerce, social interaction, and cultural exchange of their time. KHAN has positioned itself not simply as a place to dine, but as a veritable hub of cultural experience. The very notion behind the “KHAN” project was to breathe new life into the caravanserai culture, consigned to the annals of history, by fusing it with gastronomy to offer patrons an unforgettable experience; to, in this contemporary age where cultural narratives and experiences hold significant sway, implement a historical theme as a thoroughly modern business model.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 The very essence of KHAN’s narrative lies not merely in being an establishment that serves delectable fare, but in its ambition to keep the spirit of Turkish caravanserais, with their rich cultural heritage, alive in the present day. In the design of the venue itself, the warm and convivial atmosphere of the caravanserais has been brought back to life with timber detailing, stone flooring, and grand communal tables.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 The Confluence of Timber and Stone: Just as in the old caravanserais, the natural textures of timber and stone take centre stage within the space. These materials not only craft a warm and welcoming atmosphere but also imbue the venue with an authentic air.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 The Open Kitchen Concept: The kitchen has been designed to be in full view of the patrons. This allows customers to observe the process of the meats being cooked and to be assured of their freshness. This approach underscores the natural quality and the confidence in the flavour of Turkish cuisine.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 Metallic Accents: The metallic details employed throughout the venue introduce a modern touch whilst simultaneously evoking the sturdy and enduring structure of the caravanserais.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 Lighting: Soft and warm lighting has been chosen to enhance the intimate atmosphere of the space. The lighting used particularly in the seating area by the fireplace makes a subtle nod to the warm and heartfelt conversations that would have taken place in the caravanserais.<\/span><\/p>\n
